Firethorn's Den

Promiscuous Dialogues

In corners of places,
sunlight dazzles grass blades and bright blooms
in the heat of mid-June.

Dad's been asking,
-Where shall we go for vacation?-
He remembers the splendor of ocean and beach
at Pattaya, even though the fish didn't like him
there, for when we rented the boat out to fish
in the ocean, he got none while others got loads.
-It's all about luck in Thailand- the boatman said.

Mom suggests we vacation in California,
San Diego to be exact,
-We go there almost every year.-
She also remembers the fireworks on the 4th of July,
and the freezing winds that drove everyone down
from the rooftop, away from the ongoing barbecue.

Dad says if he covers the patio just right
to keep the heat out,
and let Beast out of his den to run around the yard.
We can just stay home and enjoy watching the trees
dance in the techno lighting of the sun
(too lazy to drive?)

Daughter says what fun is that when all you see
is the dead green veins of the leaves throbbing
against dust and heat flying in the air?
-I want a real vacation, Dad!-
