Firethorn's Den

Winter Solstice

Winter entered my room and
slipped into my bed quietly,
efficiently wrapping its arms
around me so tight causing
me to shiver involuntarily once,

twice when the icy fingertips
brushed my face, then traveled
down all the way to my toes.
I heard my electric blanket
protest with a loud clanking

sound and the heat increased
to fight the cold. I smiled
to myself loving my forever
good friend that always tends
to my need. Amidst the rage

of the war between winter and
the blanket, I sighed out my
command, "Cut it out! I've got
to get some sleep." Everything
went still and I felt winter

settle down finally, drawing
heat from me and the blanket,
giving up its true entity for
my sake. I smiled to myself
once again and drifted away...
